One advantage of taking ages to kill The Elder is he does a load of Lumberjacking for you.
My bow skills stayed at 26 after 2 deaths but other skills went down e.g. Clubs went down from 39 to 36.

Created a Portal using a nearby ruin.
Typical crap combat skills on show. First death was caused when I went to refresh my food and hit the Function keys by mistake (not the first time this has happened!). This stopped me from moving and the Elder ranged attack took me out.
Second death was when trying to recover items from the Tombstone. I always fumble about doing this.
The Elder got stuck when I came back and I could wear him down from range, his ranged attack mainly missed me.
Whenever I die I always sleep to start the day fresh, I have experience fighting The Elder at night with all the extra mobs, not a happy memory!
I took a couple of harvests before I had enough spare Turnips to build a spice rack. In the meantime I has used all my Carrots for Carrot Soup and had to wait another 2 days for a Carrot harvest before I could make some Sausages. I wanted to get my improved food before I took on The Elder. In the meantime I started the prep for visiting the Mountains by brewing Frost Resistant Mead. Bow skill is 26, I will probably struggle with enough damage output in the Boss fight.
I added a couple of Dragon decorations to Jarnheim for fun.
Encouraged by my success with the Draugr village and with my improved diet I risked a tour of the Swamp.
I finally found some Turnip Seeds, I need the Turnips for the Spice Rack Cauldron upgrade to use my Carrots.
While I waited for the Turnips to grow I thought I might see if I could clear out the Draugr village to collect ingredients for Sausages.
Took a couple of days but I managed it without dying.
I am now King of the Draugrs?
Still looking for Turnip Seeds I attracted the attention of a giant walking tree, time to RUN AWAY.
My large carrot seed collection had been planted a couple of days ago and it was harvest time.
Built storage near the Cauldron to store ingredients.
I felt ready to venture into the Swamp in search of Turnip Seeds. Found Leeches and Draugrs, no Turnip Seeds.
Back at Jarnheim I relocated my bees who were not happy to be moved, and collected my first Fermentation batch. Upgraded my mace in preparation for a trip into the Swamp.
Spent some days getting the interior of Jarnheim set up.
Moved the portal from the temporary base.
Recovered the metal I brought with me and stashed in a handy chest.
Moved the Kiln and Smelter from Einheim. Oriented the Kiln to better supply the Smelter.
Chopped some Fine Wood for table and chair.
Crafted items to get to Comfort 9 giving 16 mins of the important Rested buff.
Upgraded the Forge.
And finally placed a set of Workbenches outside to prevent spawns inside the moat.
Building Jarnheim took a few days including the wood cutting. Could just fit 13*7 meters in the space. Its a simple design with lots of windows.
Flooring next.

My wood cutting annoyed the nearby Draugr Village residents, I gave then a friendly arrow in the eye.
Working through the night to get the roof done. Had some support issues that needed a bit of foundations improvement.
Roof on, the chimney needed widening and the ends filling in but pretty much there.
Finally decided on the location for my permanent base, its not ideal but it was the few relatively flat areas I could find.
My tree felling attracted a Troll and I teased him to demolish a shack so I could pick up some wood.
I am crap at Valheim but enjoy it and want to finally get a full run through. I created a character that reflected my abilities in Valheim ...
